The 8th Avenue Observer

F.A.Q.s

(because we know you have them)

In less then 200 words what is The 8th Avenue Observer?
The 8th Avenue Observer is a website about theatre. Think a mixture of Vanity Fair and the Huffington Post- only all about theatre. And, when all of those writers were young and just getting started.

In more then 200 words what is
The 8th Avenue Observer?
Please read our mission statement. We spent a lot of time working on it, so we hope someone besides our parents read it.

What type of things do you cover?
Broadway. Some off-Broadway. Some off-off Broadway. Special Events, award ceremonies, benefits… basically whatever seems interesting and relevant. We do like to stick to covering things that are going to be accessible to a lot of people though. We’re big believers in that Pericles quote (that we learned via Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) about how “all things good should flow into the boulevard.”

What type of content do you have?

We aim to have a mixture of interviews, feature stories, opinion pieces, reviews, and some other fun surprises thrown into the mix.

What makes The 8th Avenue Observer different from other theatre sites?

We think the main difference between our site and the other websites dedicated to theatre is that while they present information our goal is to present ideas. Our main goal is to ask good questions in an entertaining way.

Who, and how many of them, visit your site?

We’re just getting started so we don’t have that information yet, but we hear the Internet is very popular.

Who funds you?

Ha. Ha. Ha. This site is funded the same way we pay for groceries (we have real jobs, too). Just rest assured that we are not getting money from Exxon Oil or Haliburton.

Who are you?
We’re a group of recent college graduates/young arts professionals who really love theatre and wanted to find a positive way to contribute to the theatre community. We’ve all worked (well some of us have only interned) in theatre in various ways. To find out more please read our bios.

Why should I do an interview with you?
Clearly we can’t dazzle you with statistics of our millions of readers all of whom have disposable income to spend on theatre. At least we can’t do that yet. However, we can offer you an interview with really good questions that go beyond the press release bullet points. Also, we have a tremendous amount of respect for people who work in theatre, and we try to have that come across in our interviews. This doesn’t mean we won’t ask challenging questions, but our goal is for our interviews to offer insight into what goes into making a show and why people devote their lives to it, and hopefully help be a catalyst for continued discussion and creativity. We want people to be as excited about theatre as we are.

I like the sound of this! How can I get in contact with you?

We’re so glad you asked! You can send as an email at info@the8thavenueobserver.com or you can check out our individual contact information on our bios page.
